Fixed 'bridge' supported by adjacent natural teeth
This dental prosthesis is the most commonly used one to date. It involves grinding down adjacent teeth in order to support the bridge. It is a simple procedure with good esthetics and function. However, this alternative has two main disadvantages: (1) adjacent teeth are cut down, (2) usually has a short lifespan (approximately 5-10 years).

Removable partial denture
This is a simple and less costly treatment option. However, the drawbacks are: (1) it is removable, (2) it relies on support from surrounding teeth and supporting gums, jaw bone. Adjacent teeth are gradually loosened and eventually lost with this method of replacing teeth.
Resin-bonded bridge
This alternative has some clear advantages: it is quickly installed, functions well and, since it is made of ceramic and metal, it gives a highly esthetic result. Moreover, natural healthy teeth are affected minimally. But it is a permanent approach. The resin-bonded bridge will eventually come off after short period of use, and cavity of weakness at the bond is the usual cause.

When all of your natural teeth are lost...

Removable, implant supported overdenture - 'stud attachments'
A removable overdenture, utilizing minimal number of dental implants may support

otherwise a loose denture. This method is the least costly, yet may only be

feasible where sufficient bone height, width, and density still remains.

Removable, implant supported overdenture - 'bar supported'
A removable full denture that is connected to custom made 'bar-attachment' is complicated in constructing, yet fairly comfortable, and fairlt retentive. depending on the quality and quantity of remaining jawbone, 2-6 dental implants may need to be utilized, and cost of this option is rather high.

Removable complete denture
A removable denture is constructed to fit over the existing jawbone and gums. However, the only retention is simply by sitting on th etissue, and all the pressure is borne by the jawbone and gum tissue during chewing and biting.
The disadvantages are many: discomfort in eating, poor esthetics, affected speech, and sore gums from denture movement. Moreover, a full denture placed in the upper jaw severely reduces the sense of taste.
